October 2014 Challenge

Our challenge this month is a pretty open one. October has a few charity events here in Australia and I want to challenge you to create a page that is themed to a charity event but not necessarily about the charity itself.

For example....
  • the RSPCA holds Happy Tails day this month so you could create a page about animals.
  • October is also Frocktober*, raising funds and awareness about Ovarian Cancer so you could create a page about dresses or use teal on your page (teal is the colour for Ovarian Cancer).
  • Pink Ribbon Day is also held during October so you could create a page about the women in your life or create a page using pink ribbons.
You may know of another charity event during October so feel free to use it as your inspiration. Just make sure to mention what your inspiration is so we know :)
Upload your creation to your blog or the LID Facebook page then come back here and leave a comment with a link to your creation by 31st October.

*On a side note I (Caroline) am taking part in my third Froctober and would love it if you would consider sponsoring me. You can read all about my fundraising efforts over at my Frocktober page.

Entries are due by the 31st October. We'll be back on the 15th with some inspiration from the team.
The winner for September will be announced tomorrow.

Changes.

Hi fellow crafters,

Caroline here and I'm just posting to let you know that I'm taking over Life in Details challenge blog from Darcy.
I've been here since the blog started and love that the team gets to share and hopefully inspire you all each month.

So what will the change mean? At this stage we'll be taking the month of August off, namely cause I'm due to have baby #2 any day now and I'm working on a few things behind the scenes.
Apart from that, I don't want to give away too much ;)

A HUGE thank you to Darcy for all her work and to the amazing team who have worked on the challenges. Some of them are staying on and others, sadly, are leaving us. We will most likely have a team call again but more details at the end of August.

So thank you all for playing along. I hope we'll see you again and maybe some new faces too, in September.

Confetti Pocket Card Tutorial

Sometimes you want to add a confetti pocket to your spread but don't want to stitch up your plastics or seal it another way (washi tape/glue/etc.), I have the perfect solution for you. This is by no means my original idea and there are plenty of tutorials out on the net for how to create confetti pocket - this is just how I made mine.

028

You will need:
  • pattern paper or cardstock
  • vellum or some see through plastic (recycle your product packaging)
  • glitter/sequins/confetti/punched shapes - something to fill your pocket with
Once you've decided on the size you want to make your pocket and got your bits and pieces together we can begin.
To make things a bit easier for you I've created a printable PDF template. The document contains a 4x4, 3x4 and 4x6 template in both vertical & horizontal in both 1/2 inch border and insta-style border. You can download the PDF here.
1. Print your template onto plain paper (means you can reuse it another time) and cut it out.

020

2. Trace round your template onto your chosen PP or cardstock and cut it out. I kinda cheated. I folded my cardstock in half so my windows matched.

021 022

3. Cut your vellum/plastic to slightly larger than the window size. I cut my vellum to about the same size as the frame and folded it in half.

023 024

4. Stick your vellum to what will be the inside of your pocket using double sided tape. Now stick 3 SIDES of your pocket together using double sided tape.
(You can stitch it if you like but I was going for quick in my example)

025

5. Add your glitter/sequins/filler of choice.
6. Tape up the top (or stitch) to seal it shut.

027

Step back and admire your handy work :)
With the insta-style frames I found sticking the bottom of the vellum together, or cutting your vellum the same size as your frame and fold it in half, otherwise you loose your glitter into the bottom part of the frame :/

Thank you Caroline! This is a great help to me (and others) for sure!

June PL challenge: Confetti pockets

We have the talented Michelle with us this month and she is sharing her absolutely fabulous example of a "confetti pocket" card.  Have no fear, if you are unsure of how to make a pocket card, Caroline has prepared a great tutorial that I will share in a few days!

Hi! My name is Michelle. I’m finally a SAHM after nine years in the nursing field, so I’m lucky enough to spend time every day in my scrap studio. I live in Tennessee with my wonderfully supportive husband and our teenage daughter. My family feature throughout my work, they are my world. I started dabbling in scrapbooking 13 years ago however, it didn’t become an obsession until about 2 years ago. There are so many styles and techniques to play around with now. I really enjoy the creative outlet of paper crafting, while documenting all parts of our life. I’m not sure if I have any set style, I’m kind of all over the place. I think it often depends on my mood, the subject, or challenge involved. I just started doing Project Life this year and I have to say I’m loving every minute of it. Thanks so much for the opportunity to guest design this month and share my PL page with you.

Our Design Team's creations

We are making a little change this month in that the challenge will now be a monthly challenge!  So you have from June 1-30th to link up and share with us!
